From Inception to Leaping Forward: Creating a Model for High-End Joint Venture Manufacturing

Since its establishment in 2005, BBAC, under the strategic support of BAIC Group and Mercedes-Benz Group, has grown from the ground up through in-depth and sustained development, transforming from its origins as a joint venture start-up into its current role as an industry benchmark. Over the past 20 years, BBAC has achieved a comprehensive leap in its product matrix, production capacity, and manufacturing capabilities, becoming a key driver of China’s advance toward high-end manufacturing.

Currently, BBAC’s plants span a total of nearly 6 million square meters. The company possesses a completed vehicle production system encompassing core processes for MRA, MFA, electric vehicles, engines, and batteries, featuring flexible production capacities across multiple platforms and models. BBAC’s product matrix has expanded steadily, from a single E-Class model in 2005 to a cumulative total of 13 models and 22 series products today, covering oil-fueled vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and pure electric vehicles, effectively meeting a wide range of consumer needs. Later this year, BBAC will roll out its 14th model, the locally-produced all-new CLA, in which the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) is being used for the first time. In the near future, the GLE L SUV will also roll offline at BBAC, further enhancing its luxury product offering and providing Chinese customers with tailor-made, technologically advanced and most desirable Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Nowadays, BBAC not only provides a solid support for the upgrading of Beijing's manufacturing industry, but also effectively drives the rapid economic development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Meanwhile, BBAC has been vigorously promoting the in-depth localization of components.

Synergizing Strength and Culture: Solidifying the Foundation of High-Quality Development

BBAC has always viewed manufacturing capability as the cornerstone of its development. By fully integrating the digital operating system -- Mercedes-Benz Cars Operations 360, the company has achieved intelligent, visualized, and flexible management across the entire production process. This enables the consistent application of the “Mercedes-Benz Standard” in every detail, driving continual improvements in production efficiency and quality consistency. At the same time, BBAC actively advances the pilot application of cutting-edge technologies, including large AI models and digital twins, within its production lines to accelerate the emergence of new quality productive forces.

Committed to sustainable development, BBAC is dedicated to becoming a benchmark in sustainable manufacturing. In addition to its ongoing efforts in energy conservation, resource recycling, emissions reduction, resources recycling, and zero-emission operations, the company has partnered with institutions such as Tsinghua University to explore pathways to carbon neutrality, driving the upstream and downstream of the supply chain toward a more sustainable ecosystem. Recently, thanks to its systematic approach to sustainable transformation, BBAC was recognized among the 2025 China Automotive Supply Chain Innovation Achievements. Moreover, the “Lush Mountains Book Corner” project, honored by China Environment Publishing Group of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, has also been officially launched at the company, offering the industry a replicable model of sustainable progress.

Adhering to the talent philosophy of “Gathering Strivers, Cultivating Achievers”, BBAC has consistently built a comprehensive talent development system focused on digitalization, electrification, intelligent manufacturing, and other key areas. Currently, BBAC is home to more than 5,400 highly skilled professionals, spanning a broad spectrum of core technical disciplines. Driven by the corporate and supported by diverse incentive mechanisms, the company continues to energize its organization and focus on cultivating “new quality productive forces”, inject sustained momentum into its high-quality development journey.

From 2005 to 2025, BBAC has spent the past 20 years charting a path of in-depth Sino-German integration and setting a practical example for China’s accelerating high-end manufacturing transformation. Standing at the new starting point of its 20th anniversary, BBAC will continue to be guided by its core values – “Customer Focus, Responsibility, Integrity, Innovativeness, and Agility” – and the goal of “We are BBAC! Striving to build the best vehicles in China!”, building a more globally competitive high-end manufacturing system, and contributing “BBAC Intelligence” to the high-quality development of China’s automotive industry.
